Gli appassionati al mondo GNU/Linux, e non solo, molto spesso vengono attratti dalle meraviglie di Compiz, il famoso compositing window manager per l’X Window System. Tuttavia esistono ancora dei problemi a farlo funzionare su alcune schede grafiche. Prima di perdere tempo prezioso, per capire se si può utilizzare Compiz sulla propria Linux box, basterebbe lanciare un semplice script.
Compiz Check non è altro che uno script bash che permette di ottenere un report dettagliato sulla compatibilità hardware della propria scheda video con Compiz.
I passi da compiere sono tre:
- Scaricare lo script nella propria home directory
- Rendere eseguibile il file lanciando il comando: chmod +x /path/compiz-check
- Lanciare lo script con la direttiva: ./compiz-check
E poi non vi resta che incrociare le dita. Nel caso in cui riusciate a superare tutti i test, potrete procedere con l’installazione di Compiz. Altrimenti, è arrivato il momento di pensare ad un upgrade della scheda video.

compiz è ancora troppo acerbo, funziona solo su determinate schede video ed è molto instabile

Nel caso fosse necessario un upgrade hardware: che scheda consigliate?

beh se la configurazione di xorg non è adeguata, pure compiz non funzionerà a dovere.. no?
